BD Vacutainer® EDTA tubes are used to obtain a whole blood or EDTA plasma sample.
The tubes are available in a range of sizes in both plastic and glass and can be identified by a lavender cap.
Generally, K2 or K3 Potassium Salt of EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid) is used as an anticoagulant. There are no functional differences between the two additives. The physical difference between the additives is:
- K3EDTA is a liquid solution in the BD Vacutainer® Glass Tubes
- K2EDTA is a liquid solution that is spray coated onto the interior surface of the BD Vacutainer® Plus Tubes
