Sudden cardiac arrest can happen at any time to anyone and without any warning. When cardiac arrest occurs fast response time and correct CPR procedure are vital for giving the patient a good chance of survival. This is where a defibrillator can make all the difference.
When it comes to choosing a defibrillator you want something that is going to be easy to use, reliable and has a long life, so that it’s available when you need it. The new HeartSine Samaritan ® PADs are an excellent range of defibrillators that meet these requirements.
You get a handy choice of three defibrillators so you can choose one that is best suited to you. The options are: semi-automatic, semi-automatic with guidance and fully automatic. There are training models available for each version of this range. These training models are brilliant if you want to make sure you staff know exactly what to do in a scenario where defibrillation is, or may be, needed.
What Makes This Defibrillator Stand Out Against its Competitors?
Smart New Technology
There are lots of makes and models of defibrillator on the market and some of these are excellent. However, many of the leading models use technology that’s 10-15 years old. The HeartSine Samaritan ® range uses brand new, innovative technology.
The patented
Proprietary Electrode Technology © gives a fast recovery time which reduces the time between shock and CPR. This also provides top quality electronic performance whilst greatly reducing operating noise. The electrodes are larger than those of most other defibrillators and have low electrical resistance which helps to increase the chance of successful defibrillation.
The
SCOPE Technology © automatically adjusts shocks and CPR rhythm to suit each patient. It does this by instantly assessing the patient's body resistance. This not only improves defibrillation but also makes it much more energy efficient (hence the four year electrode and battery lifespan).
HeartSine ® defibrillators come with a 10 year warranty due to their reliable performance and high quality, which is much longer than most competing models. Whilst most defibrillators record about 40 minutes of ECG use, HeartSine Samaritan ® defibrillators offer 90 minutes of recording time. This extra recording time can be really useful for medics when they are assessing the patient if defibrillation has exceeded 40 minutes.
Convenience
The compact Samaritan ® defibrillators are some of the lightest on the market, weighing only 2.4 lbs (1.1 kg) and measuring 56% smaller than other defibrillators. They come in a handy carry case which includes a second empty section which is perfect to store extra parts like the Paediatric-Pak
™ or CPR prep kit. This means that as well as being suitable for a stationary first aid point they are also ideal if you need a portable defibrillator.

Most defibrillators have about a two year lifespan for the pads and a separate battery lifespan of between three and five years. The Samaritan ® defibrillators simplify this by having integrated battery and electrodes with a four year lifespan. This means you only have one part to change every four years. The electrodes are pre-connected and ready for use. Samaritan ® defibrillators come with
adult pads, but these can be used on children as young as eight, making them very versatile. For children under eight the
Paediatric-Pak™ is available.
User Friendly
HeartSine Samaritan ® defibrillators are very easy to use. They are designed to be used in public places and by people with no training. The visual and audio prompts mean that even a child could use the defibrillator effectively. There are only two buttons – ‘on/off’ and ‘shock’ on semi-automatic defibrillators and only the ‘on/off’ button on automatic defibrillators.

HeartSine Samaritan ® defibrillators are simple to use and only have two buttons - 'On/Off 'and' Shock' (The automatic defibrillator only has the 'On/Off' button).[/caption]
The three visual prompts are clear and straight-forward: these are “
Attach pads,†“
Do not touch the patient,†and “
It is safe to touch the patient. The 500P offers a CPR advisor that gives instant and clear feedback to help you with CPR, instructions include:
“Good Compressionsâ€, “Push Harder,†“Push Faster,†and
‘’Push Slower’’.
The defibrillators have a built in indicator light that flashes to show the defibrillator is fully charged and active, giving you peace of mind that it will be ready for use if you need it.
Versatility
The Samaritan ® defibrillator range has the highest level of protection from dust and water ingress in the industry (level
IP56). This makes it reliable in almost every environment, including very dusty building sites and during heavy rain.
So What is the Difference Between the Models?
Samaritan ® PAD 350P
The
PAD 350P is semi-automatic and will tell you when to administer shocks. It is compact and lightweight so it’s great for first responders. You will receive visual and audio prompts to guide you through pad application and shock delivery if required.
Samaritan ® PAD 360P
The
PAD 360P is fully automatic and will automatically deliver a shock if this is required. You will be provided with visual and audio prompts to guide you through pad application.
Samaritan ® PAD 500P

The 500P semi-automatic defibrillator gives clear visual and verbal instructions.[/caption]
The
PAD 500P defibrillator is semi-automatic and has everything included in the 350P & 360P models. In addition, it includes an integrated CPR advisor™ which will give you guidance throughout defibrillation.
Impedance Cardiogram (ICG) analysis measures the speed and force of compressions being administered. The voice prompt will then give instant CPR directions or feedback in response to the compressions being given, such as ‘‘
push harder’’, ‘’
push faster’’, ‘’
push slower’’ and ‘’
good compressions’’.
Samaritan ® PAD Trainer
The training defibrillator is a great teaching aid. It’s compact, lightweight, and easy to use. The Trainer comes with a remote control that allows users to practice different scenarios with the HeartSine Samaritan ® defibrillators. This unit looks and feels like the real thing and will guide users through simulated analysis, energy delivery and prompted Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation without delivering a shock.
The trainer is available for the
350P,
360P and
500P models.
Medisave would like to reiterate that Heartsine ‘’strongly advises that potential users of defibrillators ensure their training is in line with current ERC/AHA Guidelines and are aware of the regulations and guidelines relating to training and the use of an AED in their specific country.’’
